FMP ideas

3 Ideas for my FMP

As our Final major project is fast approaching I am starting to come up with ideas.  As I would like to go in to the Medical Photography direction I feel I should be bulking out my portfolio with these types of images.

1 - MEDICAL PHOTOGRAPHY VS EVERY DAY PHOTOGRAPHY.
Why we need the qualifications and professionalism they use in the hospital.  Rather than using the patients own images. The ethics behind legal photography.

2 HOSPITAL LEAFLET. –
Another idea was to produce a hospital leaflet with a range of images the clinical photography team do on a daily basis.  Like the grounds of the hospital, some arty images of equipment’s like scalpels scissors? And some studio images.

3 CLOSE CROP ABSTRACT BODY PARTS –
I am also going to research in to the evolution of medical photography. Looking at the work of John Coplan.  I think the idea of body parts in close crops is very interesting as it turns to a surreal image that isn’t easily recognised or identified.

Hopefully I will be back in the hospital in a few weeks for more ideas and help.

Critical Study – (introduction to contemporary practice essay)

For my Contemporary Practice Essay I am going to choose Medical/Clinical Photography as my starting point as it links to my specialist interest.  I am going to research into the background and have set my self a question below to explore and expand on.

“ How medical photography has
Evolved from the Victorian days
To the present day”

I am go to explore and evaluate the historical context of medical photography and identify key events.  I am going to include critical analysis of historic and contemporary photographers in this field and maybe try and visit a medical museum. I will include the ethics of the Victorian age and in today’s age. Researching…

‘ducheenne 1862 mechanisms of the human face’
John Copland – black & white abstract body parts
Sally Man – husband & children
Eadweard Muybridge – document of body movements

Things to think about?

Do I think the patient in the photographs 100 years ago ever thought they would be made public today?

How have images I have seen had an impact on my own work and ideas?

More historic photographers to research –

Edward Weston – Abstract nudes
Robert Mapplethop – genitals
Bill Brants – nudes
Andrea Kertesz – distorted nudes.

FMP IDEAS ZOWIE

As our Final major project is fast approaching I am starting to come up with ideas.  As I would like to go in to the Medical Photography direction I feel I should be bulking out my portfolio with these types of images.

My idea, which was helped along by Steve a member of the clinical photography team in QE Hospital-

MEDICAL PHOTOGRAPHY VS EVERY DAY PHOTOGRAPHY.
Why we need the qualifications and professionalism they use in the hospital.  Rather than using the patients own images.

Another idea was to produce a hospital leaflet with a range of images the clinical photography team do on a daily basis.  Like the grounds of the hospital, some arty images of equipment’s like scalpels scissors? And some studio images.

Hopefully I will be back in the hospital in a few weeks for more ideas and help.
